Driveway Repair Nampa, Idaho
Driveways serve one “main” purpose, but an improperly designed and/or constructed driveway can actually detract from the looks of your home. And whether you’re considering a new driveway, or replacing an old driveway, your choice of a concrete contractor matters.
Did you know you can have a customized driveway?
Well, you could? In fact, there are several driveway designs to choose from. Today, we’re going to break down the different types of driveways. Who knows, you may decide to be different and/or think outside of the box.
This is the most common driveway you’ll see. They are easy to install and fairly inexpensive when compared to other options. Plus, concrete is durable – it’ll last a long time when installed properly. And you can customize concrete driveways with colored dyes and specialized and/or decorative designs. The one main drawback of concrete is it is susceptible to extremely cold weather and/or erosion from continual water runoffs. We often do stamped driveways which add a unique look to the front of your home.
Asphalt is another popular option due to it’s ease of installation and lower costs. But unlike concrete, asphalt cannot be “customized” – it comes in one color; black. Another aspect to consider is that asphalt does require recurring maintenance in the form of resealing. In most cases, asphalt driveways will need to be resealed roughly every four years.
Basalt is a volcanic rock that is extremely dark, with a unique structure that stands out. It is extremely durable and it will not chip and/or break under normal conditions. But you can’t just slap some basalt rocks down and let the rest fall into place. You need a contractor that has worked with Basalt before. Otherwise, you could end up with structural issues in the driveway which could result in cracking, separation, and/or settling.
A properly installed brick driveway can convert a basic house into a curb-front masterpiece. Brick is a versatile material with plenty of colors and textures to work with. It’s easy to create certain patterns with bricks that can’t be done using other materials such as concrete and asphalt. However, brick driveways do cost more than most other driveway options.
Talking about creating a unique look, cobblestone driveways are one of the most timeless, unique designs you can have. Cobblestones are extremely durable and will last a lifetime. They come in a variety of colors and will definitely add that POP that will make your home stand out. Cobblestone isn’t cheap, but it will definitely last a LONG time. The only downside is cleaning as they do have raised surfaces that can trap dirt, mud, and/or snow.
Crushed Stone Driveways
For those looking to keep costs down, a crushed stone driveway may be the perfect fit. It’s similar in design to gravel, but it’s a little smaller with a slightly smoother surface. Plus, there are a LOT of options when it comes to color and texture. If you wanted to create a pattern in the driveway, you could use multiple colored stones and/or channeling techniques.
Another popular option is gravel. It’s very strong, chunky, and doesn’t degrade over time much. But it’s not cheap either. Gravel does come in a plethora of colors which is great for customization. Plus, gravel is great for areas where you have a lot of water runoff from rainfall and/or unlevel elevations.
And finally, you can use pavers to build your driveway. Most pavers are created using brick, concrete forms, and even natural stones. As such, it’s extremely easy to create the perfect look and/or design for your driveway. Paver driveways tend to POP, even when view from a distance. As such, it’s very popular, especially in higher-end subdivisions and neighborhoods. But, be warned – this is probably the most expensive driveway option.
